Tom Berry
1963 – 2017

Tom Berry was an HHSC member from 2010 to 2017 and held both a private and glider pilot license. After Tom joined, his enthusiasm for soaring rubbed off on his son Kevin who then became an active junior member.

Tom was involved in many aspects of the soaring club but found his place as a strong supporter of youth flying in his role as advisor to the Harris Hill Juniors.

Tom received his Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management from Jacksonville University and his Master’s Degree in Technical Management from the University of Maryland. Tom’s passion for flying led him to a career in the airline industry, working for Piedmont Airlines,U.S. Airways, and subsequently as a systems engineer for the Mitre Corporation in McLean, Virginia.

He lived in Corning with his wife Susan and their two sons. Tom passed away of cancer in 2017 and as part of his legacy he wanted to impress upon all his friends the importance of following cancer screening guidelines.

His family endowed an annual $500 scholarship in his name to be awarded to “a most deserving junior”.
