Harris Hill Soaring has the best junior program in the country. After receiving sufficient training, a student can fly solo in a glider at 14, and can become an FAA-certified Private Pilot at age 16. Learning to fly builds maturity, judgment and teamwork skills.
Our junior members are integral to our organization. They work monthly duty shifts, providing support to our flight line operations. In return, junior members receive free flight instruction, and pay substantially reduced rental fees while flying the club’s fleet of sailplanes.
Many of our former junior members are now senior members and aviation professionals, commercial pilots, and world class competition sailplane pilots. Our instructors keep a watchful eye over our junior pilots and ensure that their training is conducted with safety as a top priority.
